Thanks

Targa Newfoundland 2007 is over. While we did not accomplish everything we wanted from the event, as always the experience was simply amazing and we proved that a privately-built and campaigned Mitsubishi Evolution can run fast on the Newfie roads and can challenge the big boys.

Below is a recap of our adventure, as found on [...]

Final Results

The 6th running of the Targa Newfoundland rally is now over, and as it does every year, 2007 brought lots of excitement, tight battles, and more than a few surprises. The veteran team of Roy Hopkins and Adrienne Hughes managed to take the overall and Classic division win in their 1969 BMW 2002. Leg 4 Heritage

We’re out.
We started the day chasing the win in class 9, and were hoping to climb up the order in Modern, but we were out of competition right after lunch. As I said in my post yesterday, it happens that fast.
The day started out strong for us. The order on the road was re-shuffled overnight [...]

Leg 3 Kittiwake

For the past month or so we have been praying for rain during the event. We have known all along that the base times we would have to beat in the most modern class would be very, very difficult, and that rain would be our biggest potential advantage. Leg 2 Exploits

Leg 1 North Avalon

The start of the first full leg of competition renewed my nervousness. Despite having a clean and problem-free run yesterday, the overnight stay always saps a little bit of confidence. With only 6 stages, we would be able to ease into the competition without the more grueling 8 stages per day we would see for [...]

Prologue

Wow. I have finally had a chance to drive our new Evo on my first real stage and all I can say is WOW.
As I’ve mentioned previously, after competing in Targa Newfoundland for three straight years, this is the first time I’ve come as a driver. Today was focused primarily on team briefings, meet and [...]

Registration

The Saturday before the start of the Targa Newfoundland will always feel like coming home. The first official day of the event is focused solely on the arrival and registration of competitors, final prep of the cars, and the all-important tech of the racecars. It’s also a chance to catch up with the friends you [...]

Arrival in St. John’s

I’m here.
Jet-lagged from the 4,500-mile trek across the continent, sore from being jammed in a middle seat for both my flight from San Francisco to Montreal, and again on my flight to St John’s, Newfoundland, but I am here.
Our first day on “the Rock” (the local nickname for Newfoundland) began at a leisurely 10:00am, which [...]
